Marc van der Velden studied Mechanical Engineering at the Delft University of Technology, earned a masters degree for becoming a physics teacher, and did PhD related research. He has been working as a patent attorney for EP&C since 2008.
Marc’s background in education means he finds it easy to explain the intricacies of the world of patents. It also makes him a good listener and quick to discover which problem an invention has been designed to solve. He likes interacting with his clients: “Although it’s all about the products, in the end, it’s about contact with people. As patent attorneys, we give the inventor advice but we also work with them. We almost become part of their work so to speak. When we work in collaboration, we inspire each other to find solution upon solution. This then leads to an improved product. When we want to protect this product, we use words that when carefully formulated, act as the perfect weapon.”
