"It is rewarding when one’s efforts lead to concrete results and applications."

Wendy van Zoelen studied Chemistry at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, where she also performed her PhD research in the field of polymer chemistry. She obtained both her master’s degree and her PhD with the distinction cum laude. After her PhD, she worked as a pipeline integrity researcher at KEMA where she worked on coatings and corrosion prevention of pipelines. Subsequently, she moved to the United States to work as postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, where her research focussed on biomimetic polymers and antifouling coatings. Wendy joined EP&C as a patent attorney in 2014.

Wendy is in her element when she is researching and delving into new projects: “I like to work my way through the literature meticulously, and check all of the facts. This enables me to contribute effectively to a novelty search and it’s an amazing feeling when your research contributes to tangible results and new applications. I want to make a valuable contribution and enjoy helping others. I like to write and enjoy the challenge of presenting complex information in a clear and easy-to-understand way.”

Besides researching and filing patents, Wendy is also an expert in obtaining supplementary protection certificates (SPCs).
